I am seriously thinking ofre doing all my zippers, just going out buying all the invis zips I can find ripping them all out of my costumes and seeing what happens.. however the onlything tht keeps me from doing so is the fact taht the vevlet is very fragile.....  btu my zipper sewing is appaling... :(

yippee!

I finsihed the gg, all of it, I got the belt things today and so I made it, heres pics... front

(sorry odd angles, but little room in my room right now..)

back and scaleing, (my thumb is exactly 2") also like Ive said, gerties hips are a tad bigger then mone so the belt and zipper are straining a tad there, so just look at the belt... ;p

and since I had to get 4 toggles (I love those!) I made a hitch for my train heres a pic of it up sicne we all know what it looks like down....

okay here are the stamps....

but first, how I did them. from some pics you can see that the leaves are about as long as Miranda smiddle finger so I printed up this

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

see?

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

then I chose 6 leaves i liked (3 filled 3 lines) you can see where I numbered them on the first pic.

then I drew them out on cardbaord (making sure to number them so I know whats what (lined filled) then used my exacto knife and cut them out. these were going to be my stencils.

the after figuring out that they wouldn't stand up to paint, I got fun faom nad ct out the shape

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

and see thire color coded ;p

then since they were the right shape and size I cut out backs and super glued them to the backs keping the number wih them. and here they are with the orig cut outs too..

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

f I had to do it again I wold make two stamp parts so the design is deeper, as it is it works BUT if you pressed down too hard, the leaf wouldn't have veins or whatever was the "empty' part. but as it was it worked fine, but since it was shallow, I had to paint on the paint then stamps so as not to get too much paint on it. and here is the finished results

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

it took me all of 30 mins to make the stamps and about 3 hours to stamp about 14 yards of fabric.

I'm done!

my GG is done, and it didn't take me 6 months to finish either. ;p 9I've never done that before! so as you can see this is a first)

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

no there ISN'T a mess in my room. there is no room. :) but as you can see I gave it a little bit of a train. I have always loved trains, i remember watching Princess Dianahs wedding (the "re-runs") repededly b/c i love it so much and in the sound of muic my fave part was the wedding (sorry not on topic.. ahem)

I need to take in the top part of the sleeves a tad, but 'll save that for a rainy day along with taking the lining out of the hope sleeves and replacing it.)

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

you can't see it well, but i'm very happy with the way the train falls (and it was compleatly not intentional) and if you can make it out (my dummy is a tad bigger then me) you can see the same types of lines like in the back pic of the GG that i was debating about the cincher remember? so perhaps all velvet looks like that wen pulled? so the modle was a tad too big for the dress?

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

yes the trim is very scratchy. i might line that too. but rainy day.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

oh and I'm very proud of this dress, the zipper 9although it doesn't look like it in the pics (big dummy) is the best i've done yet. also I did my first button hole. for the ties, but thats in a differnt pic.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

heres tha fabric I did. I made the stamps by figuring out how big the leaves are in real lie (or to scale since I'm NOT Mirandas height) then printing out a pic of the fabric to those dimentions buying fun foam using my exacto knife and there you have stamps. them I got "folk art" paint in "leaf green" and started going at it. I'm actually happy with the way that turned out too. (it's not photogenic sorry!)

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

sleeves (the under sleeves i made tighter so they bunch when on, when not on though they look kinda like a elephent trunk.) ;)

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

oh, and ties..

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

hey Nigla isn't the only one who can "cheat". ;) if anyone is interested in my stamps I'll take pics and post them here. to show you what i mean. but anyways... the trim is from suomynonacouture on ebay. the dupioni is "cream/black" from denverfabrics the velvet is from exsclusivesilks on ebay. its "mossy green' or forest green I forget which, cotton velvet with "extra high pile"

update!

yes, anotehr one (gearing up for the next week) I just finished doing all I can do on the GG till I get back... the side seams need to have about 1/4" taken in at boht sides toward the arm scye, but I think that can wait. but it would help with the pulling, on me it looks better, (I'm more plyable then my dummy) but thats going to bug me so..... anyways.. I cut out and sewed the top of the sleeves (I'm cheating, perhaps not later, depends on how tight I'm going to b on the fabric.) like the coronation dress of Eówyns, the top is a nice sheer soft cotton (the same I lined my hope sleeves with, I'm going to miss that stuff! I used the last of it) to my elbow, and I think I will cheap out and line the skirt with cotton and then put strips of the whatever where you can see it, but not sure... are we sure that there are two skirts? or is it a front panel the sides attacthed at the lining of the over skrit?

anyways... since I had to dig out my phone to call my G-ma then i just took pics of what I've been doing, (oh, and yuo can see the shape I think I'm going to have my front panel be. also, I don't think you can see it but I put a line (basted it) around 1"below where i'm attaching the skirts... here are some pics.. (the full lenght one on the right side of the dress (left side of pic) i have the sleeve muslin pinned on so I don't lose it. and on the opisite side I have the yoke pinned on.)

here you can see the under top sleeves.

woo hoo!

is it just me who finds it odd that Narnia is a Disney movie and Universal is showing it at1200 on thrus/fri and Disney isn't? anyways, found out that I'll be watching Narnia on the lagest screen in the US. and I saw HP GOF on the second largest screen in the US. anyways... can't pack more till tonight and tomarrow sparrows fart. so i was sewing, the GG bodice together, found out, the neck is a tad too wide, but that can be fixed, or perhaps it doesn't need to be once I have the yoke. but for the time I'll be in Disney, I'll also be getting things done on that, I'll have it on my dummy (no she still doesn't have a name, and yes I'm still fighting with her, perhaps after i come back I'll get myself another dummy so I can have two!) stretching to her size, well not "stretching" but conforming to the right shape, it currently looks like a loosly shaped bag, but I want the seams to be in the right place and the neckline used to laying flat by the time I come home so i ca order fabric, speaking of fabric...

the denverfabrics dupioni I was going to order is now out, so on to my second choice. the gold/black dupioni, (the links are somewhere in my LJ but I'm too lazy to dig them up right now) the olive and black is not exactly sold out, but they have enought to be annoying, 5 yards, and since that will be about 4 after I wash it, no real reason to have it, since I couldn't use it for anything... not right away anyway... ;) and since I'm on a limited budget.... thats why I'm not going for the lovly organa right now, perhaps one day when I'm less lazy I'll redo my GG with a under dress then i can change the look of the dress on a whim. and me a belluthien will be my twin. *smirk* I want to be the evil one! *puts on red horns*

oh, well... i now want to cut ut the skirts and hang them, but then the temptation will be too much to just sew it! oh bad me! and since I really cant sew much else... just had a evil idea, I can start on my Moteé shirt, i have a (probably) 5-8mm silk skirt (that I hate) that has alot of yardage so i could start on that! alas no thread! bummer. its like my brillient idea of sewing in the zipper in the GG, but I have no zipper for that dress... and like my corset idea, no fabric, but thats a tad more dire then the otehrs. ;)

sorry for posting with not much, but like I said, long time no comp (that i can acsess all the time!)coming up!

and for those who want pics... well sorry but I packed my phone/camera so no pics till I'm back. but I'll probably have more pics. *sigh* I really wanted to bring my VD or hope, but no place to wear the hope (and I'm paranoid) and the VD is not done.... cést la víe! or rather cést moi víe (don't curcefy me frech speakers! or spell checkers!)

hmm

redid the yoke on the gg, wasn't happy, and since when has any LOTR muslin been right on the first try?
lordofhaladin: (Default)
well today, after being sent home from work (yay!) I was playing with the curshing and guess what, ironing it doesn't work, at least for me. but here is what i was doing.... I got it wet, the crumpled it into a ball and ironed the ball, till it was "fried" then I shocked it by putting in in cold air, (to "hold" the crush) here are the pics

the "right" way of the pile

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

the "wrong" way

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

face on

well crap. my server crashed. well you get the picture (no pun intended)

anyway, the bad side of this is its not permanant. also its ALOT of work. so in the end, I'm thinking I'm going to age the velvet, (beating time!) and pretend that teh orig is NOT crushed.

GG mock

lordofhaladin: (Default)
okay here are some pics of the first mock

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

both sleeves

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

collar (I realised after i started on this, that the collar is not 360 degrees, its just in the front, so thats both easier and harder come to think of it,

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

profile

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

since I took these pics I've changed some things, the seam lines are higher up, and the collar is lower. also with the sleeves, the under sleeve is going to also be "bunched" and tied at the wristes like the coronation dress. also the dress will prbably be less fitted then the mock, (due to the fact that the velvet is less "forgiving" then the muslin.) also, I've figured out that I should order about 8 -10 yards of the dupioni, or organza, depending. since shrinking is to be consitered, also I'm lining the skirt with whatever too so... that adds about... 4 yards? and theres the sleeves etc... so ugh.

ooh! Narnia looks great! (there was just a preview on HBO) I can't wait!

also thinking of what mock to do next.... ;)

blah

working on the GG muslin, since I have no money to start on anything till I get back, thats what I'll do, or at least till I run out of fabric... ;)

I'm bad

Nov. 26th, 2005 11:23 pm
lordofhaladin: (Default)
is it cheating if you don't really "know" the answer? I was "cheating" by looking at the funearl dress for th pattern shape of the GG, and if they are the "same" I would say the straps are definatly 1" nothing more....
lordofhaladin: (Default)
hmmm.... while I was looking at some pics of the GG, I realised taht there are belt loops on the dress, see here?

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

see the loops on the sides at the seam? now look here

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

you can see them here too, with the belt through them... perhaps I'm the only one who didn't know this? ;)
also, is it just me who thinks that in this picture

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

it looks like the cushed imprint of the waist cincher? (see here

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

just look at the angles of the two backs. what do you think?

and as a memo, the neck trim first row the bottom of it is at the seam for the yoke. see

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

also, how fitted is this dress? I mean obviousely the modle is a tad more curvy then Miranda is see

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

and the above back pic. there are pulls and the arm scye looks like they made it more fitted to the bodice and a smaller arm scye, more movement but if your the wrong size, its just not gonna work.

and is this dress like the br dress in that the trim covers the "strap"? and the strap is very thin? thick enough to have the sleeves and the yoke in it but not much more then 1 1/2- 2" wide? b/c the bottom row of trim looks like its (almost) sew on to the sleeve cap.

hmmm... also looking at the side veiw of the GG

http://img124.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gg094us.jpg

and the concept art for this dress, is it supposed to be tighish?

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

hmmm.. food for thought for tonight at work.... any thoughts?

wow!
